JOB OVERVIEW
Under minimal supervision, solves technical and logistical issues related to new golf club product programs. Works on projects from design into the production phase to ensure program success. Implements and refines fabrication methods and processes for R&D designs. The position requires a person to work as a coordinator and team member liaising with the following groups: Design, Innovation, Tooling, Program Managers, Suppliers, Test Center, Manufacturing, Quality, and Purchasing. Typical responsibilities which are within the scope of this position include review of design for producibility, supplier liaison, analysis of data, process implementation, testing of components, the creation of product specifications and process flow and control documentation, process refinement to achieve Design intent including cosmetic finishing, production release of the product.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Responsible for coordinating technical and integration aspects of club product development, including heads, shafts, medallions, shaft inserts, specialized weighting, etc.
· Implementation and/or refinement of existing fabrication methods/processes for transition of products into volume production.
· Act as the technical liaison between Design, Innovation, Tool Shop, Engineering, Project Management, Quality, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Suppliers.
· Monitor all tools of a given program to determine if components meet Design intent and specification. Generate tool and process releases to enable new products to go into volume production.
· Test components for durability and coordinate component distribution for player testing and Manufacturing pre-production testing.
· Assess Supplier processes for Process Capability as required to achieve and maintain sustained production.
· Oversee and track the creation of detailed drawings for new products by interfacing with, Design, Tooling, Quality, Manufacturing and Suppliers.
· Suggest, test and implement process improvements to Callaway’s designs, processes and to Supplier’s processes and manufacturing methods.
· Other duties as assigned or deemed necessary.
· Create work orders for internal testing and prototyping.
· Make technical decisions on programs.
· Communicate technical program information with suppliers and internal personnel.
· Discuss decisions with Program Directors and provide technical input.
· Provide manufacturability guidance to designers, toolmakers, and others.
· Work with Quality Engineers on programs.
· Provide program input at weekly supplier strategy meetings.
· Review first article and other test data to verify product and tooling specs.
· Coordinate spec generation for components and clubs.
· Evaluate process capability at suppliers.
· Update personal program timelines for project jump-off estimates (synchronous flow).
· Visit various suppliers and give direct feedback on technical aspects of programs.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
· Solid knowledge and experience utilizing engineering fundamentals and testing methods.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
· Able to work with suppliers in an independent mode to solve technical problems.
· Ability to lead technical meetings and report project status.
· Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
· Experience with investment casting, forging, welding, metal finishing, coatings, and/or composites required.
· Experience with injection and compression molding helpful.
· Knowledge of UG/NX and iMAN CAD/CAM helpful.
· Valid US passport required.
· Working knowledge of Six Sigma techniques and/or SPC/TQM experience ideal.
· Fluency in Mandarin Chinese helpful.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· B.S. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
· Minimum 4 years related experience.
