Hope Valley Country Club, located in Durham, North Carolina, and managed by Bobby Jones Links, is hiring for a Pro Shop Manager. Founded in 1926, Hope Valley is an elite private club featuring a classic Donald Ross designed golf course, state-of-the-art tennis facility, resort-style pool complex, and a spacious, welcoming clubhouse offering its members first-class recreation, dining, and programming. Hope Valley is ideally situated in the heart of one of Southeast’s most vibrant, exciting areas.
The Tennis and Pickleball Pro Shop Manager is a key leadership role within the Racquet Sports Department at Hope Valley Country Club. This individual is responsible for managing all aspects of the pro shop’s daily operations, delivering a high level of personalized service to members and guests, and supporting the club’s premier tennis and pickleball programs. The ideal candidate will be professional, detail-oriented, and passionate about providing a first-class country club experience.
Primary Responsibilities include:
Member & Guest Service:
- Provide exceptional, concierge-level service to members and guests.
- Build lasting relationships with members to anticipate needs and preferences.
- Maintain a polished, professional demeanor in all interactions.
Retail Management:
- Oversee all retail operations including merchandise selection, inventory control, ordering, and visual merchandising.
- Curate a premium product mix tailored to the club’s demographics and seasonal needs.
- Manage POS system, sales tracking, and monthly reporting.
- Conduct regular physical inventory and loss prevention practices.
Team Supervision:
- Recruit, train, and manage part-time pro shop associates.
- Foster a member-focused, service-oriented team culture.
- Create and maintain staff schedules to ensure appropriate coverage.
Facility & Operational Oversight:
- Manage racquet stringing, paddle repair, demo programs, and resale of used gear.
- Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and presentation of the pro shop.
- Coordinate with maintenance and housekeeping for facility needs.
Program & Event Support:
- Assist the Director of Racquet Sports and teaching professionals with tournaments, leagues, exhibitions, and social events.
- Promote club programming through in-shop displays and member communications.
- Facilitate member sign-ups for clinics, lessons, and court reservations.
Administrative:
- Prepare and monitor annual pro shop budget in collaboration with department head.
- Maintain accurate records of sales, inventory, and payroll (if applicable).
- Ensure compliance with club policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- 2–3 years of retail management experience, ideally in a private club, resort, or specialty sports environment.
- Strong knowledge of tennis and pickleball equipment, rules, and industry trends.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with POS systems (e.g., Clubessential) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to multitask and adapt to a fast-paced, member-driven environment.
- Availability to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays, and special events.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a private country club or luxury hospitality setting.
- Familiarity with racquet stringing equipment (training available if needed).
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Basic marketing or visual merchandising skills.
