Accountant Tax (Taylor Made Golf Company, Inc.; Carlsbad, California):
Act as the primary contact for the tax department for the Canadian entity, external tax consultants, and third-party vendors. Lead the sales and use tax (Goods and Services Tax “GST”/ Harmonized Sales Tax “HST”/ Quebec Sales Tax “QST”) reporting/compliance process. Perform multiple accounting tasks, including preparation of accounting reconciliations, schedules, and summaries indicating the extent of examination and presenting and supporting findings and recommendations. Coordinate with finance, IT (information technology), AP (accounts payable), and credit teams to assure proper account setup for sales tax purposes. Maintain tax request log. Coordinate timely completion of periodic tax packages, audit requirements, and ad hoc requests. Act as the primary contact for any future tax audits that occur, including coordinating with auditors to provide accurate, timely information and minimize company risk. Review, organize, log, delegate, and archive all incoming tax communications, including delegating tax requests to appropriate team members. Update manager monthly on tax request log, as well as notify manager or director if any issues arise. Engage in general tax research and act as a tax reference for Taylor Made. Assist in month-end close, including input of journal entries and schedule preparation (to include foreign currency gains and losses). Assist in the preparation of audit work papers (to include pulling required documents in the audit process). Exercise responsibility for various account analyses and reconciliation, including assessing general ledger balances for reasonableness. Research and provide historical information and analysis. Recognize and implement process improvements in the department. Complete special projects to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the accounting function. Assist the legal department with tax-related requests and provide tax guidance with contracts.
Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field, plus four (4) years of experience in the position offered, as an Accountant, or related occupation. Will accept a three or four-year bachelor’s degree.
Must have (skills):
Must have experience with the following:
- Canadian tax (GST/HST and QST) recording and reporting;
- Microcomputers and related spreadsheet applications (Microsoft Excel and Word), Business Objects for reporting, Oracle EBS for recording data, and Canada provincial tax authority sites for tax return filing;
- Evaluating accounting documents to detect and avoid errors including general ledger account details, trial balances, sales transaction reports, account payable/receivable listings, evaluating tax forms such as 592, 592-B, 1042-S, Canada NRK forms, sales and use tax US and Canada filings (all US jurisdictions, GST/HST, QST, and PST (Provincial Sales Tax) for Canada);
- Accounting principles, practices, and procedures (US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) accounting principles);
- Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP);
- Historical data analysis and forecasting future data; and
- Managing the bridge between IFRS and US GAAP.
