JOB OVERVIEW
Under the direction of the Director of Manufacturing, provides leadership and program management of Callaway Golf’s Environmental & Safety programs. This position has the primary responsibility for the Chicopee manufacturing operations. The Manager, EH&S, will develop, interpret, recommend, and comply with environmental, health, and safety regulations and/or company policies. Responsible for developing and managing Callaway’s environmental sustainability program. Assists in planning for changes in physical facilities to meet environmental, health, safety, and fire code requirements. Responsible for preparing, evaluating, and executing contracts. Responsible for coordinating all aspects of permitting and regulatory compliance.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise, direct, plan, and delegate assignments to environmental and safety personnel for both Carlsbad and Monterrey operations.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws: interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Work with subordinates and peers locally and globally to develop metrics and plans to achieve stated goals and objectives and communicate key objectives.
- Conduct annual performance reviews including updated development plans for subordinates.
- Provide regular direction to subordinates to ensure critical internal customer needs are met
- Conduct group meetings as needed to communicate key information and build group cohesion
Industrial Hygiene:
- Chemical hygiene program/Laboratory safety. New chemical review and evaluation. Hearing Conservation Program management, noise monitoring, and control engineering.
- Air quality response, investigation, and corrective action. Ventilation design, evaluation, measurement, and troubleshooting.
- Ergonomic evaluation, job rotation, and improvement implementation. Confined space program management. Exposure assessment and industrial hygiene monitoring - all shifts.
Fire
- Manage facility-wide fire code compliance to include alarm panel service, servicing of quarterly building sprinklers, Inergen, and Fike suppression systems.
Environmental
- Hazardous material business plans. Wastewater compliance. Pollution prevention. Hazardous waste management. Hazardous material shipments. Air pollution compliance and permitting. Interpretation and communication of the latest environmental regulations.
- Supports environmental, safety, and sustainability technical evaluations associated with consumer products and supply chain compliance.
- Manages corporate sustainability program and reporting.
Capital Projects
- Provide input for the annual budget to plan the expenses for the department
- Track actual versus planned expenses, taking corrective action as necessary
Safety Support:
- Works with Safety program manager to develop, implement, and sustain safety programs.
- Facility Safety Inspection Audits. Response to and support of all corporate safety issues for the Carlsbad campus. Job Safety Analysis.
- Interpretation and communication of the latest safety regulations. Assessment, testing, and recommendation of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Process safety aspects to include test approval (TA), procedural change approval, and FMEA.
- Leads/Participates in safety committees and safety incentive programs.
- Provide statistical accident/injury information to all levels of the organization as necessary.
- Evacuation system- management and testing. Proposition 65 notification and chemical listing. Accident/ incident investigation.
- Hazard Communication program management.
- Electrical safety program, procedures and training.
- Respirator program management.
- Machine guarding evaluations, design and auditing.
- Emergency lighting testing – Annual.
- OSHA Postings.
- Cranes and hoist testing/certifications.
- Develop Safety Aids, procedures, and training.
- Coordinate boiler and compressor testing.
- Good Ideas evaluation.
- Lockout/ Tagout program management.
- Provide comprehensive safety training to include new hire orientation, hazard communication, lockout tagout, confined space, chemical hygiene, laser safety, fall protection, radiation safety, portable fire extinguisher and respiratory protection.
- New construction technical reports.
- Contractor safety program management.
- Emergency response program management-Business continuation.
- Destruction of sensitive material.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
- Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems used in semi and fully automated high volume manufacturing. (E.g. machine guarding, automation/robotics and lockout tagout).
- Demonstrated knowledge of chemistry, toxicology, physiology and exposure assessment methods.
- Ability to design and execute exposure sampling plans, interfaces with accredited laboratory personnel, write summary reports and utilize basic statistical methods.
- Ability to provide safety expertise and leadership to line supervision and management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to routinely handle multiple-priorities.
- Ability to assess and provide technical training to the staff.
- Ability to plan and organize and execute departmental projects.
- Demonstrated ability to interface with all levels of management.
- Ability to act as a liaison with insurance companies on behalf of Callaway Golf Co.
- Demonstrated ability to work with outside vendors, service providers, regulatory personnel, or contractors as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field.
- Master’s Degree or relevant experience or certification by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH), the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), the Institute of Hazardous Materials Managers (IHMM) or Institute of Professional Environmental Practice (IPEP).
- Minimum 5-10 Years hands on experience with safety, industrial hygiene and environmental management.
- Knowledge of California and Federal Hazardous Waste Regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of California and Federal OSHA rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of local fire codes.
- Waste Profiling capability.
- Basic Computer Skills i.e., Word, Excel, Access.
- California Driver License.

- Work is performed in a designated professional office workstation and environment.
- Extensive use of office equipment to include computer, calculator, copier, fax, and other business-related machines and software.
- Occasionally required to move drums, containers and pallets.

- Occasionally required to work in inclement conditions.
- Occasionally required to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds, regularly lift and/or carry up to 20 pounds and perform moderately demanding physical tasks.
