Position Summary
The successful candidate will own various accounting tasks, including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, financial statement review, and various report generation. This role will also be involved in process improvement activities geared toward creating more efficient, effective, and repeatable processes that drive timely and accurate financial reporting. The candidate should desire continued learning and development and have a passion for continued growth on the core accounting track. This role will play a large part on a small team and will have frequent interaction with all levels of the Accounting and Finance team, including the Senior Director of Accounting & Finance, the leader of FP&A, and the CFO.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve key role in monthly close process by preparing monthly journal entries and maintaining monthly balance sheet reconciliations in several complex assigned areas including inventory valuation and reserves, special orders and related deferred revenues, occupancy charges (CAM and property taxes) and vendor receivables.
- Collaborate with all areas of finance, particularly reporting, tax/compliance, and FP&A, and contribute to overall goal of timely, accurate, and insightful financial reporting and analysis.
- Communicate with various vendors, financial institutions, operating partner companies, store personnel and our store customers to provide ongoing support and assist in dispute resolution.
- Prepare various reports and dashboards for distribution to various levels of management.
- Support annual financial statement audit and various other third-party audits, such as bank audits.
- Serve as mentor to Staff and Junior Accountants, including various informal leadership opportunities, such as reviewing reconciliations and journal entries and providing guidance on complex transactions.
- Perform other relevant tasks as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
- Communication: Strong listening and interpersonal skills. Candidates must possess good verbal and written communication skills and be able to communicate cross-functionally and through phone calls and e-mails.
- Analytical: Candidates must have strong statistical/analytical skills including data retrieval, organization, presentation, and summary skills.
- Technology: Candidates with experience in SAP are desired but not required. Must be savvy in Microsoft Excel.
- Organization: Strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously - prioritize and complete requests in an efficient manner. Attention to detail is a must.
- Cultural: Self-directed; must be assertive and eager to contribute in an extremely fast-paced organization; must live by the Company’s Core Values.
- Education: Bachelors Degree with Accounting or Accounting/Finance-related concentration required.
- Experience: At least 5 years in a relevant Accounting role preferred; candidates with a mix of public and private accounting experience will be prioritized (ideal candidate has 2 years of public accounting experience, preferably at a top tier firm, plus 1-4 years of private accounting experience).
- Certifications: Candidates with an active CPA license will be prioritized, although not required.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time as the job is completed primarily at a desk each day. Variable desk heights are offered so alternatively sitting and/or standing at the desk is optional.
- Flexibility to work extended and varied hours as needed.
