JOB OVERVIEW
The Principal Software Engineer, SAP HANA Administrator, is responsible for designing, implementing, administering, and optimizing SAP HANA environments. This role manages SAP HANA projects and collaborates with cross-functional IT teams to address business and system requirements, ensuring high availability and security while driving improvements in SAP HANA operations. The position requires demonstrated expertise in SAP HANA architecture, performance tuning, security, and integration with other enterprise systems. The Principal Software Engineer also oversees system support activities, including maintenance and upgrades, while ensuring compliance with organizational standards and industry best practices.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage the installation, configuration, upgrade, and administration of SAP HANA, S/4HANA, and related environments.
Monitor and analyze SAP HANA system performance, capacity, and availability, implementing necessary optimizations.
Implement and manage backup and disaster recovery solutions for SAP HANA systems.
Oversee user and role management, authentication, and security administration in SAP HANA.
Troubleshoot and resolve fewer complex databases, applications, and infrastructure issues, collaborating with teams, as necessary.
Design, build, and optimize the SAP HANA integration with remote systems, cloud platforms (e.g., Azure), and third-party tools.
Lead data provisioning, table management, and partitioning activities within SAP HANA environments.
Develop and maintain SAP HANA operational standards, policies, and documentation.
Ability to champion major system migrations, upgrades, and refreshes, including on-premises to cloud transitions.
Contribute to SAP HANA security, compliance, and audit activities as needed.
Mentor junior administrators and project teams on SAP HANA best practices.
Participate in on-call support rotation for critical SAP HANA issues.
Outstanding analytical, facilitation, presentation, and communication skills to deliver effective project status and technical solutions to management and stakeholders.
Thirst for popular and emerging techniques and frameworks for SAP HANA advancements and industry trends.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
Demonstrated SAP HANA architecture, installation, configuration, and administration expertise.
Proven understanding of SAP Basis tasks, including upgrades, migrations (DMO tool), Unicode conversions, and SSO configuration.
Expert knowledge in SAP HANA performance tuning, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
Expert knowledge in SAP HANA security, user management, and compliance.
Demonstrated experience developing and supporting backup and recovery strategies, high availability, and disaster recovery planning.
Understanding of SAP HANA data modeling and data migration.
Familiarity with SAP on Cloud (Azure), SAP Fiori, and SAP BusinessObjects integration is a plus.
Proficient in scripting (e.g., Shell, Python) for automation of SAP HANA administrative tasks.
Effective communication skills, able to convey technical information to various audiences.
Ability to multitask and prioritize projects in a fast-paced environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field required.
Minimum 8 years of experience with database management systems, including at least 4 years administering SAP HANA environments.
Proven track record in large-scale SAP HANA implementations and migrations.
SAP HANA Administration or related technical certifications preferred.
