III. Job Summary
? Maintains Fairwood Golf and Country Club’s 18-hole course, short game practice area, practice green,
range, surrounding grounds and related golf equipment within a fiscal expense budget.
? Continues education of self, staff licenses, certifications or other through GCSAA, WSDA and USGA to
effectively manage all aspects of FG&CC course, equipment, staff and supplies.
? Manage course, staff, and equipment under high standards of legal and ethical business practices.
- Job Tasks (Duties)
THE COURSE
- Always maintains course in proper playing condition.
- Maintain Course Maintenance areas of responsibility in accordance with the FG&CC Golf Course Maintenance Standards, in cooperation with the Green Committee and/or Board of Trustees. Advise the Green Committee regarding changes required to the FGCC Maintenance Standards.
- Leads and maintains environmental management and stewardship of course and surrounds.
- Records and archives all maintenance, course improvements or damage to course or surrounds.
- Maintains accurate and complete records on weather data, maintenance procedures, pesticide applications, etc.
- Develops, repairs, and maintains drainage, irrigation and watering systems on course and surrounds.
- Supervises all planting, fertilizing and care of turf, plants, shrubs, trees, and other facilities on FG&CC property.
- Selects and prepares proper fertilizers and nutrients for all flora and fauna on property.
- Communicate regularly with Green Committee, General Manager, Head Golf Professional, and Membership on grounds, course or property related issues. Assured the General Manager, Head Professional and Membership are aware of any change to normal golf course operations, (i .e., temporary greens, carts on paths only, chemical or sand treatment, etc.)
- Manages all personnel and equipment related to snow removal within parking lot, Clubhouse surrounds and exterior.

THE CREW
- Hire, train, direct, determine the compensation of, assist in maintaining accurate employment records for, and terminate all employees in the golf course maintenance department (green crew).
- Maintain strong leadership skills to manage, direct, mentor, and lead crew to the standards of FG&CC.
- Develops, maintains, and revises departmental training/expectation manual for crew.
- Attends regular scheduled staff and management meetings to ensure cross-different communication.
- Implements and enforces comprehensive safety program for employees, members, and guests on course in compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
- Attends turf conferences, equipment shows, workshops and other educational programs to maintain a current knowledge of technical and turf innovations and changes that could affect the department’s operations or FG&CC property.
EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES
- Maintain detailed records (MSDS) of all chemical or hazardous materials purchases and dispositions. In addition to adhering to OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard (HCS)
- Maintains FG&CC Course Maintenance Buildings with clean and safe work areas for its employees.
(Main Building, Chemical/Fertilizer, Pump Houses and Sand Storage)
- Manage financial and fiscal responsibility, to ensure stability and liquidity of club and assets.
- Maintains all equipment and repair documentation through Club mechanic and/or vendor with detailed logs of work performed on assets. Coordinates these records with Club Asset List to determine life expectancy and/or replacement.
- Maintains quarterly/ bi-annual /annual inventories on all chemical, fertilizers, equipment for financial reporting purposes of Club assets.
- Assist in the development of Operational and Capital Budgets annually, and the purchase of all Green related equipment in accordance with FG&CC purchasing policies.
- Attend ALL scheduled meetings of the Green Committee and Board of Directors unless specifically excused by the General Manager.
COMMUNICATIONS
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Coordinates and establishes short and long-range plans for the golf course through communication to and from Membership through the Green Committee.
- Provides a monthly summary to the Board of Trustees at the scheduled meeting - last Thursday of each month.
- Maintains Membership communications through monthly eCaddy Newsletter articles as well as a Course Blog on FG&CC website or other social media.
- Oversee all the course construction and use budget work sheet to track such projects financially with Club Controller and /or General Manager.
- Conducts facility security checks ensuring accurate inventory of equipment, keys, and reports all security related issues directly to the General Manager ASAP.
- Establish and maintain a good relationship with several outside entities who share the property, i.e., Williams Gas Pipeline, King County, City of Seattle, Cedar River Water and Sewer, Fire Department and Department of Ecology (well rights)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
? Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
? Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
? Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme
heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
