Peter Millar is seeking a strategic and collaborative Wholesale Buyer to lead product assortment and inventory decisions across our key wholesale channels: green grass golf shops, specialty retailers and department stores. This role will be instrumental in aligning product assortments with channel-specific needs, optimizing inventory levels, and driving profitable growth through disciplined buying practices.
This role requires a deep understanding of the golf and lifestyle apparel market, an analytical mindset and strong communication skills. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing seasonal buys for wholesale accounts and driving sales through data-driven decision making to support the brand vision, sales targets and market trends.
Key Responsibilities
Channel Strategy & Buying Execution
- Develop and execute seasonal buy plans for department store, golf, and specialty accounts aligned with brand vision and financial goals
- Analyze historical performance, market trends, and customer insights to inform channel-specific assortment strategies
- Partner with Sales to understand account needs and ensure product alignment with channel opportunities
Merchandising Partnership
- Collaborate closely with Merchandising to influence line architecture and ensure channel feedback is integrated into product development
- Attend line reviews and product presentations to advocate for channel-specific needs and opportunities
- Contribute to pricing, margin, and promotional strategies to optimize sell-through and profitability
Inventory & Demand Planning Alignment
- Partner with Wholesale Planner on demand forecasts and inventory availability to ensure optimal stock levels
- Monitor in-season performance and recommend reorders or inventory shifts to maximize sales and minimize risk
- Support preseason and in-season OTB management and reconciliation
Market & Competitive Analysis
- Conduct regular benchmarking of competitor assortments, pricing, and promotional strategies
- Stay informed on market trends and customer preferences through trade shows, store visits, and industry research
- Provide actionable insights to inform seasonal planning and product development
Operational Excellence
- Maintain accurate product and buy data in ERP and PLM systems; ensure timely purhcse order creation and tracking
- Prepare and present channel-specific assortments during seasonal line reviews and account meetings
- Ensure adherence to seasonal calendars and milestone tracking across cross-functional teams
Qualifications
- 5+ years of buying experience in luxury or premium apparel, ideally within wholesale channels
- Deep understanding of green grass, specialty retail and department store dynamics
- Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence product decisions
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel and planning tools
- Excellent presentation and communication skills
- Passion for golf, luxury apparel and the Peter Millar brand
