Job Purpose:
To ensure the day-to-day maintenance, improvement and development of the golf course, in line with operational budgets.
Operational Responsibilities:
- General supervision of the golf course
- Maintenance of the golf course to a high standard including general grounds maintenance duties
- Operation of ground care equipment including inspection, routine maintenance and cleaning
- Operation of tools and equipment including powered hand tools, tractors and ride-on machinery
- Assist in the planning of work and maintenance programmes, identifying materials to maintain and improve the quality of the course
- Identifying opportunities for course improvements and oversee and manage approved projects
- Prepare the course for daily play including marking hazards, ground under repair, setting of tee markers, preparation of bunkers, maintenance of course furniture and pathways
- Maintain adequate supplies of materials and chemicals to ensure course maintenance programmes are delivered and ensure their appropriate use
- Complete inspections of buildings, fences, structures, equipment and plant on an ongoing basis to ensure their safety of use and reporting defects appropriately
- Ensure all codes of practice in respect of operations, health and safety etc are followed
- General cleaning and litter collection
- Providing a monthly report and attending Trustee meetings as requested
- Adhere to the Course’s policy and procedures for purchasing equipment and materials
Health & Safety Responsibilities
- Assist Trustees in the development and review of the course’s safety systems including risk assessment, COSHH, safe systems of work and safety operating procedures
- Ensure the safe storage of all materials, tools, equipment and chemical, in an orderly manner
- Keyholder and part of the out-of-hours emergency call-out list
People Responsibilities
- Liaise with and direct the work of maintenance volunteers and contractors to ensure safe working practices and customer safety
- Ensure all customer interaction is handled professionally and with courtesy, assisting in a quality customer experience on each and every visit, recognising their importance to the business
- Reporting issues or suggestions to the Trustee Board at the earliest opportunity
- Must commit to, support and work within the Course’s safeguarding policies and procedures
- Adopt a flexible attitude to the role at all times, undertaking tasks that assist the Trustees to maintain a competitive advantage.

Qualities/Experience and Training (Desirable)
- Have or be willing to work towards the SVQ Level 2 in Sport Turf: Greenkeeping or Sports Turf: Groundsman
- Previous experience of greenkeeping/grounds maintenance operations
- Flexible approach to working patterns, including early mornings, evenings and weekends
- Full UK driving license (required)
