GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, prepares surfaces and applies appropriate coatings customer facing elements of the vehicle (bodies, cowls, etc) as well as to details and assemblies using spray methods of painting. May also spray surfaces of machines, manufactured products, or working area with protective or decorative material, such as paint, enamel, glaze, gelcoat, or lacquer, using spray gun.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepares painting surface:
- Cleans grease and dirt from product, using appropriate cleaning materials such as lacquer.
thinner, turpentine, soap, and water. - May use acid, wire brush, or steel wool to remove rust from metal.
- May be required to grind, sand or buff surface.
- May fill cavities and dents with putty to attain smooth surface.
- May heat and spray wax onto products after they are tested.
- Prepares mixture:
- Selects, mixes and thins paints/coating liquid per paint codes to produce desired color, according to specifications, using paddle or mechanical mixer.
- Paints plastic, steel, fiberglass, aluminum and other products using HVLP spray gun:
- Fully qualified in all operations of an HVLP paint spray gun. (i.e., filling container, using appropriate tools to connect gun to air hose, regulating width, volume and pressure of the spray gun according to knowledge of painting technique).
- Skillfully applying sealer and finish coats to achieve an end product that meets Club Car’s quality standards.
- May use hand brush to coat areas inaccessible to hand sprayer.
- Finishes surfaces by polishing with sandpaper, pumice, wax, or other materials.
- Applies masking tape over parts and areas that are not to be coated.
- Maintains paint production as shop flow demands.
- Maintains weekly inventory of paint products and communicates with paint supplier in the event of a shortage in a timely manner to prevent product outages.
- Recycles unused paint products and waste.
- Packages product in such a way as to eliminate shipping damage and labels product per Club Car’s warehousing standard.
- Maintains clean, organized and safe work area to include equipment and brushes utilizing appropriate chemicals and solvents.
- Operates forklifts(if certified), pallet jacks, dollies, positioners, and hoists.
- Works independently.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains safe and productive work environment by assuring the work area is clear of tools, brooms, debris, and other items that may present a hazard.
- Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
- Must be able to work overtime as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB
Education:
- High School Diploma/Equivalent required.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Must be able to read and write in English.
Experience:
- Some relevant experience in manufacturing setting and/or painting experience.
- SKILLS: Comprehensive knowledge of wet-paint techniques and tools.
KEY COMPETENCIES
- Position requires wearing a respirator and other PPE specifically designed for the safety of the operator.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Requires occasional lifting of objects of objects 25 to 50 pounds.
- Work requires periodic stooping/bending and frequent walking/standing.
- Work involves activities that require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, machines, or vehicles.
