Job Summary:
The Equipment & Tool Designer will design and implement tooling, fixturing, and machinery to support new process development and continuous improvement projects. This position will collaborate with manufacturing engineering teams to develop equipment solutions for assembly and manufacturing. The Equipment & Tool Designer will be responsible for researching new technologies and innovations to implement safe, cost-effective and efficient solutions. The Designer will be responsible for managing project deadlines for both the tool & equipment design team as well as the tool and die department.
Responsibilities:
- Design tooling, fixtures, and machines for manufacturing operations that are safe, high quality, manufacture-able, accurate and meet project scope error-free.
- Coordinate the repair, rebuild and improvement of tooling, fixturing, and machinery
- Responsible for quoting and project deadlines for new tooling and equipment design projects.
- Reviews and approves designs, drawings, details, etc. at the group level. Specifies, requisitions, and buys tooling materials and components. Expedites tooling projects to insure their timely completion.
- Fabricate parts using CNC machine tools and Mastercam software.
- Performs as liaison, when assigned, with equipment manufacturers, sub-contractors and tooling service firms engaged by the company.
- Support NPD and continuous improvement projects by collaborating with engineering and operations teams to ensure project deadlines are achieved
- Provides engineering assistance during tool construction and initial tool tryout and debug. Ensures that tools are dimensionally verified and are production ready when released.
- Establish process for design request and direct equipment design and tool and die team priorities
- Use CAD software to produce drawings from sketches, existing drawings, images, and other forms of communication, maintaining the tool drawing file, electronic tool log and the CAD drawing file.
- Keeps abreast of new developments in the field of tooling, applications and methods. Recommends the adoption of innovations when applications are feasible to improve quality and production or reduce manufacturing costs.
- Maintain tool drawing file to insure that all tool designs are maintained in as-built status in accordance to QSP-0096
- Must be able to manage multiple projects concurrently
- Other duties as required
Qualifications:
- Min two-year degree required
- 8+ years of experience as a tool & die or equipment designer
- Must be proficient in the use of CAD
- Pro E software experience preferred
- Strong background in die/fixture design, metal working materials, mechanics, and heat treating
- Required experience and familiarity with CNC machine tools and parts making
- Preferred experience with Windchill
