The Assistant Superintendent will assist the Superintendent in the planning, coordination, and execution of daily maintenance activities to ensure the golf course is maintained to the highest standards. The Assistant Superintendent will fulfill these responsibilities with a hands-on approach, that focuses on strengthening the team culture at Amarillo Country Club through positive and effective leadership.
Responsibilities
- Manage daily maintenance activities including mowing, watering, fertilizing, and aerating.
- Supervise groundskeeping staff to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
- Monitor and manage turf grass health, including disease treatment, pest control, and soil health.
- Oversee irrigation systems, including scheduling, maintenance, and repair.
- Assist in managing the maintenance budget, including procurement of supplies and cost control.
- Ensure staff follow safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
- Participate in course renovations, construction projects, and other special initiatives as required.
- Apply fertilizers, insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, and soil conditioners appropriately.
- Provide recommendations to improve turf conditions and address challenges.
- Supervise detailed maintenance of the property, staff, and equipment.
- Participate in interviewing, hiring, directing, and supervising the Golf Course and Grounds team.
- Keep accurate records of all chemical applications, inspections, and other required activities.

Experience Requirements
- 2-4 years of experience in Turf Maintenance.
- Ability to obtain Texas Pesticide Applicator License within 90 days of hire.
- Must have a Valid Driver’s License.
- Experience with irrigation system repair and water management.
- Knowledge of cool season turfgrass management practices.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to speak Spanish is a plus.
