Located in Grand Blanc, Michigan, and managed by Bobby Jones Links, The Captain’s Club offers a premium public 18-hole golf course within the Woodfield Community. Designed by the legendary 1989 Ryder Club captain, Raymond Floyd, the course is surrounded by protected wetlands and wildlife that never disappoints!
The clubhouse restaurant is open to the public, all year round. It features a beautiful veranda that overlooks the driving range. The restaurant is the perfect place to host small, intimate private events. The clubhouse is best known in the area as a top venue to host weddings, corporate events and social events.
The Captain's Club is hiring for a Golf Course Superintendent. Primary responsibilities include:
- The Golf Course Superintendent’s overarching responsibility is to maximize the golf courses’ condition and health within the budget provided.
- Manage and maintain golf course properties, including golf course, clubhouse grounds and landscaping, open spaces, and the equipment used to maintain these areas.
- Maintains accurate work records for all personnel in the department.
- Establishes short- and long-range plans for the golf course.
- Works directly with the club’s golf committee to maximize communication and execution of their priorities.
- Directs and delegates activities to the Assistant Superintendent, Irrigation Technician, Mechanic, and other on-course supervisory personnel.
- Has daily communication with the General Manager and Head Golf Professional regarding the golf course conditions and playability.
- Inspects course regularly to evaluate and recommend improvements.
- Keeps all permits and licenses of the agronomy department up to date.
- Selects and prepares proper fertilizers and nutrients for all flora and fauna.
- Develops and maintains drainage, irrigation, and watering systems.
- Responsible for the operation of all maintenance equipment and calibration and operation of each.
- Ensures that chemicals, petroleum, and other controlled products are used, stored, and disposed of by local, state, and federal regulations; maintains required records and strives to minimize the use of chemicals and petroleum products.
- Supervises all planting, fertilizing, care, and removal of turf, plants, shrubs, trees, and other facilities on the golf course and clubhouse grounds.
- Oversees all construction, maintenance, and renovations on the golf course.
- Hires and trains all maintenance personnel.
- Ensures all I-9 paperwork, e-verify, and onboarding are completed within three days of an associate’s hire date.
- Follows all State, Federal, and Bobby Jones Links’ human resources rules, including key policies such as hiring and firing, discrimination, and harassment.
- Implements and enforces a comprehensive safety program for employees, members, and guests on course in compliance with local, state, and federal laws; implements and manages the club’s hazard communication (HAZCOM) program.
Required Skills
- Problem-solving skills.

- Understanding of Club financials.
- Must have a thorough working knowledge of the club’s agronomy operation.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
- Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Occasionally exposed to wet and humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
- Able to meet and perform the physical requirements and work effectively in an environment typical of this position.
- Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping, and pulling.
