The Maridoe Golf Club is hiring for an Assistant-in-Training to join our Turf Management Team. At Maridoe, our members enjoy our exclusive property dedicated solely towards the game of Golf. A private golf club on 212 acres of Blackland prairie, surrounding the most extensive private lake in Dallas County. The design by architect Steve Smyers is a true representation of the landscape native to Texas. At 7,800 yards, this par-72 course leads you on a journey through soft, billowing grasses, lower forested areas, across the prairie and always back to the lake that anchors Maridoe. With a slope rating of 155 it consistently holds its place among the rankings as one of the most difficult courses in Texas, encompassing strategic shot values to create an exhilarating and stimulating golf experience. Multiple practice venues, including a 10-acre double teed practice ground and a 3.5-acre short game area are surrounded by trees to give you the serenity you need to concentrate on the next shot.
Not only has Maridoe been a constant favorite among tour pros since its opening in 2017, but has been host to several Collegiate, Amateur, and Professional events. Most recently it was host to the 2024 LIV Golf Team Championship featuring some of the world’s most elite golfers, and will once again welcome back the LIV Tour this upcoming June. This position will offer great insight into the preparation it takes to execute a large-scale televised golf tournament. We are currently in the process of some major course projects, as well as the construction of a brand new maintenance facility, driving range, and golf instruction building, and are in search of an aspiring Turf Manager to join our maintenance team and be a part of all the new and exciting changes at the club!
The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent in Training or AIT position involves all aspects of golf course management and is considered to be an entry level management position for those who are looking to advance in their Turf management careers. The Assistant-in-Training is a vital role and will be well versed in all areas of turf maintenance, but with an emphasis specifically on Chemical/Spray applications, Irrigation maintenance, Moisture Management, Equipment Operation, Administration and Record Keeping duties, and Small Project employee management under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendents. This position will require prior experience in a private golf club setting, but training can be provided with the right candidate.
- Daily scheduling of Golf Maintenance Team to achieve tournament like playing conditions.
- Moisture management of Bermuda greens using the TDR and various other watering techniques.
- Responsible for all irrigation repair (HDPE), nightly irrigation programming for the 2-wire Rainbird Cirrus Pro software, and daily adjustments to accommodate dry/wet areas.
- Proper use of all spray and fertilizer equipment, including rate determinations and calibration techniques- both manual and GPS operated applications will be applied.
- Assist with general golf course maintenance and other cultural practices when needed.
- All record keeping duties, as well as daily maintenance journal entries monitoring course conditions: weather, green speed, firmness, moisture content, disease monitoring, etc.
- Tournament course preparations for the upcoming LIV tournament to be held in June 2025
Position Qualifications:
- Two-year certificate, Associate Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Turf Grass Management. Will consider other experience/education and those currently working towards a Turf Degree.
- Working knowledge of Golf Course Maintenance operations and procedures.
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills, Spanish speaking a plus.
- Ability to interact with Club managers, employees, members, and guests.
- Must have or able to obtain a Texas Pesticides License (QAL or QAC) within six months of employment
- Must have a valid driver license and clean motor vehicle record.
- Must be able to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening.
