HISTORY
LIV Golf launched in 2022 as an eight-event Invitational Series with tournaments across the U.S., Europe and Asia. 2023 saw the first official season of the LIV Golf League, establishing the sport’s first professional golf teams captained by many of the game’s most decorated superstars competing in 14 events around the world.
The format respects golf’s history and traditions with updates for modern-day sports fans; three days, 54 holes, no cut, shotgun start, and simultaneous team and individual competitions, offering a faster tournament that drives engaging storylines and offers an immersive fan experience. The League’s award-winning events, each wholly owned and operated by LIV Golf and broadcast to over 500 million homes worldwide, showcase world-class competition within a family-friendly environment. Music entertainment, live concerts and a festival-style atmosphere play a signature role with LIV Golf, a two-time winner of the World’s Best Golf Event from the World Golf Awards and a Sports Business Awards Finalist for Sports Event of the Year.
LIV Golf continues to expand its reach by bringing the League to new and returning markets featuring some of the most iconic venues in the world. It has also introduced free agency to professional golf, integrating end-of-season player promotion and relegation, team trades and off-season roster movement that drive year-round fan engagement embraced by many of the world’s most popular sports.

Role objectives
LIV Golf is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Team Counsel to serve as the primary legal resource for LIV Golf’s 13 teams. This position will require the ideal candidate to provide day-to-day legal support for a range of matters, including sponsorships, league compliance, and more. The Team Counsel will work closely with team executives and other internal stakeholders to ensure that LIV Golf’s teams operate effectively and within legal boundaries by providing legal assistance on contracts and other legal matters.
Responsibilities
· Team Legal Support: Serve as a legal advisor for LIV Golf’s 13 teams, providing counsel on a wide range of matters, including team operations, rights issues, sponsorship deals, and corporate governance.
· Sponsorship & Commercial Agreements: Assist teams in negotiating and drafting sponsorships, marketing, and partnership agreements, ensuring that all deals align with LIV Golf’s brand and strategic objectives.
· Compliance & Regulatory Matters: Ensure the team's compliance with applicable laws, league rules, and regulations. Provide counsel on regulatory matters related to team operations and other sports-related legal frameworks.
· Dispute Resolution & Risk Management: Assist teams in managing disputes and legal challenges. Work with external counsel to resolve disputes efficiently and minimize potential risks for the teams.
· Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with LIV Golf’s League legal team, business development, marketing, and operations departments to ensure legal considerations are integrated into team operations and decision-making.
· Team Governance & Policies: Support the team's governance structures and ensure that internal policies are consistent with LIV Golf’s values, regulatory standards, and operational needs.
Experience
· Experience: Minimum of 7+ years of legal experience, with at least 3+ years spent working directly with professional sports teams, or sports organizations. Experience with contract negotiation, employment law, sponsorships, and media rights in a sports context is highly preferred.
· Sports Law Expertise: In-depth knowledge of sports law, including player contracts, collective bargaining agreements, sponsorship deals, and compliance with league regulations.
· Contract Drafting & Negotiation: Proven experience in drafting and negotiating complex contracts, including player agreements, sponsorships, and event contracts.
· Problem-Solving & Risk Management: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess and mitigate legal risks while supporting business objectives.
· Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly and concisely to non-legal stakeholders.
· Team-Oriented: Ability to collaborate effectively with various teams within LIV Golf and the teams, acting as a trusted advisor and legal partner.
· Education: Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to the bar in at least one U.S. state.

- Experience working with international sports law or managing cross-border legal matters in a sports context.
