Golf Course Superintendents are primarily responsible for the management and maintenance of golf courses.
Ensure the courses are healthy, attractive and provide an optimal playing environment.
Their duties and responsibilities include:
- Oversee and participate in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths
- Supervise and control all maintenance expenses associated with Golf Course operations
- Design, oversee and implement fertilization, pest and weed management programs
- Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal laws, OSHA rules and regulations regarding shop safety and pesticide usage
- Monitor the course daily to determine proper playing conditions
- Provide technical, operational and safety training for employees to ensure that staff is working within OSHA, club safety, state and federal guidelines for safe working conditions
- Develop and maintain drainage, irrigation, pumping and water reservoir systems
- Communicate with golfers and club management about course conditions and playability
- Hire, supervise and develop Assistant Superintendents, Foreman, Greenskeepers, and other staff
- Order parts, supplies and equipment as needed
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Golf Course Superintendent or similar role.
- Knowledge of golf course maintenance and turf management.
- Understanding of irrigation systems and pest control.
- Ability to manage and train staff.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Degree in Turfgrass Management or related field is preferred.
- Working towards professional certification from the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) is a plus.
