The Lakes Golf Course in Wentworth South Dakota is seeking a dynamic and experienced General Manager/Superintendent to lead and oversee all aspects of our prominent golf course. The Lakes Golf Course is currently nine holes and is considering expanding to eighteen holes.
The General Manager/Superintendent will be responsible for managing golf course daily operations, maintaining and enhancing the golf course, ensuring exceptional experience for golfers, and maintaining the highest standards of service and hospitality.
Leadership characteristics such as integrity, humility, respect, and a strong moral compass should be the focus of the general manager. High level areas of focus are in:
- Management: Overseeing all aspects of the golf course, including golf operations, maintenance, sales and marketing, and human resources
- Customer service: Ensuring that guests are satisfied with their experience
- Relationships: Managing relationships with the board of directors, investors, members, patrons, employees, and community
- Facility: Overseeing the care and maintenance of the facility
- Staff: Recruiting staff, monitoring their performance, and establishing standards and operating procedures
- Policies: Administering and coordinating course policies, compliance, and ensuring that all rules are met
- Budgeting: Preparing, participating, and monitoring the annual budget, revenue goals, and expenses
- Marketing: Participating in marketing programs to promote the Lakes Golf course and community
General Manager/Superintendent is responsible for the full day-to-day operations of the golf course, including but not limited to:
Communication and Relationships:
- Positive communication and fostering a strong teamwork ethic between all stakeholders (customers, members, other employees, or shareholders) and Lakes Bar and Grill.
- Recognize, respect, and support the contributions of key stakeholders, staff, and volunteers.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers and members, addressing their needs and concerns promptly and professionally.
Event Management:
- Coordinate with event or tournament point of contact, vendors, Pro-Shop, Lakes Bar and Grill to ensure successful execution of event.
- Organize, plan, schedule staff and oversee requirements and make sure course and equipment is ready for tournaments and event.
- Monitor feedback to continuously improve event offerings.
- Available to help with announcements, questions and scoring of tournaments, when needed.
Leadership and Management:
- Anticipate and identify issues, risks, objectives and goals and develop appropriate business solutions and plans of action.
- Be a consistent and positive force behind the creation of a positive experience for all at the golf course.
- Maintain the confidentiality of The Lakes Golf Course, employee, and community information.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Actively solicit company sponsors and renewals of previous sponsorships.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to create promotional materials and campaigns recruit course events.
- Recruit and hire employees, ensuring compensation has board approval.
- Train, schedule and supervise employees, and maintain all employee records.
- Resolve problems or issues that employees may have with customers, members, other employees, or shareholders.
- Provide support to leagues.
Operational Excellence:
- Develop, implement, and participate in the plan for the care of the Lakes Golf Course to include adequate seeding, fertilizing, watering and mowing to maintain and provide a healthy golf course.
- Participate in daily tasks like mowing greens, fairways, roughs, and bunkers.
- Monitor and adjust irrigation systems to maintain proper turf moisture levels.
- Apply fertilizers and pesticides according to established schedules and regulations.
- Oversee the general appearance of the golf course by providing regular cup rotation, trash and litter removal, parking lot and maintenance sheds.
- Plan, schedule, and participate in maintenance of all equipment. Ensuring equipment is cleaned, repaired, and maintenance schedules are completed and documented.
- Monitor and service the well and irrigation system.
- Report on major system and equipment issues. Provide repair or replacement recommendations to the board. All major repairs and purchases require board approval.
- Purchase and maintain adequate inventories of all supplies needed for the maintenance of the golf course and equipment.
- Organize, plan, schedule work shifts and ensure personnel are covering the required shifts.
- Complete projects and improvements to the course as proposed or approved by the Board.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Provide regular communication, reports on performance, initiatives, areas of concern, and improvement to the board of directors.
- Engauge with Lakes Bar and Grill in a positive and teamwork outcome on issues and feedback.
- Communicate with shareholders in a professional manner. Listen to concerns and communicate in a positive manner.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s, Associate or equivalent combination of education and experience degree in Agronomy, Turfgrass Management, Horticulture, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years’ golf course experience as ground supervisor or assistant superintendent.
- Currently possesses or able to obtain Pesticide/Fertilizer Applicators License.
- The ability to work long days and weekends as needed due to shorter golf season in this area.
