Job Overview:
The Director of Golf at Craig Wood Golf Course will oversee all aspects of the golf operations, including instruction, the Pro Shop, and member engagement. As a key member of the facility management team, the Director will act as the "Ambassador of Golf" for the community, fostering a welcoming, professional, and proactive environment. This role demands an individual who is visible, approachable, and dedicated to enhancing the golfing experience for members, guests, and juniors alike. The Director will communicate all golf-related opportunities at Craig Wood Golf Course, ensuring excellence in every interaction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct all golf-related activities at the facility, including managing the Pro Shop, golf carts, bag room, locker room, and organizing member/guest events and tournaments.
- Create and implement golf programming that promotes the game, focusing on providing a first-class experience for members, guests, and junior golfers.
- Manage sales tax related to inventory sales in the Pro Shop, ensuring compliance by obtaining and maintaining a New York State sales tax number.
- Lead the recruitment, training, and development of the golf operations team (excluding full time Park District employees), in collaboration with the Park District Manager. This includes making decisions regarding hiring, training, and employee performance.
- Cultivate a deep understanding of membership dynamics, ensuring that exceeding member expectations remains a core priority for the golf operation’s success.
- Develop and execute comprehensive sales, marketing, and net revenue strategies aimed at enhancing the financial performance of the golf operations.
- Maintain daily communication with the Golf Course Superintendent to ensure optimal maintenance schedules for mowing, watering, and overall course conditions.
- Provide individual and group lessons to members and guests, promoting a culture of learning and skill development.
- Establish a comprehensive junior golf program, including a minimum of one junior tournament each season.
- Oversee and supervise the Craig Wood Invitational Golf Tournament.
- Work closely with the Park District Manager and Golf Course Superintendent as a collaborative member of the management team to ensure seamless operations.
- Accurately document and promptly report any incidents or accidents to the Park District Manager, ensuring proper follow-up and resolution.
Required/Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of PGA/LPGA Professional Certification is required.
- A college degree is preferred.
- Proven experience as a Head Golf Professional or Assistant Golf Professional at a private or public golf course is essential.
- Demonstrated ability to manage teams, with strong organizational and coaching skills.
- Experience with tee sheets, inventory management systems, and other operational tools.
- A team-oriented individual who excels in building relationships with members, staff, and guests, and who can manage conflict with tact and professionalism.
- Exceptional communication skills, with a proven ability to resolve conflicts and solve problems effectively.
