The Expert Engineer Lean Operations, Asia will provide the leadership, coaching, support and project management to TM's Asia supply chain in support of the company’s lean transformation efforts at our T1 suppliers in Taiwan, Vietnam, and China. The role will work closely with our T1 suppliers and on-site Engineering teams to lead the implementation of projects to drive improvement in safety, quality, delivery, inventory, and productivity. The Head of Lean Operations, Asia will deploy lean tools across TM's T1 Asia Supply Chain in a manner that builds employee engagement and ensures long-term sustainability.
Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with key stakeholders within TM and Core Supplier leadership teams to build and maintain an overall improvement strategy utilizing tools such as: strategy deployment, Lean transformation plan, value stream maps, KPI’s, etc. to identify key opportunities to improve supply chain execution.
- Manage the execution of all Lean transformation activities within our core supply chain including Kaizen events, projects and any other activity to improve and further Lean efforts to ensure execution of transformation plan.
- Influence leadership (including TM, Supplier Execs, Production Managers, etc.) on strategic topics and help make decisions that support the needs of the business
- Lead the establishment and maintenance of standard work and continuous flow in all areas. This includes 5S and visual management in all areas.
- Provide lean status reports for both internal/external communications, including metric based accomplishments of the transformation plan.
- Participate in factory audits that ensure function of production management systems
- Estimate and report on true savings of lean efforts in areas of: Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost.
- Hire, train, coach and lead high potential transformation team members
- Lead Process Engineering team across multiple countries: Taiwan, Vietnam, and China.
- Provide training on basic lean tools and kaizen methodology
- Lead value stream mapping exercises to determine and record business improvement areas.
- Collaborate with all relative teams and stakeholders to influence change.
- Lead and develop technical staff through coaching and personal development activities.
- Performs other responsibilities as required.
Knowledge and Skills Requirements:
- Experience with Toyota Production System or company with similar system.
- Automotive OEM T1, T2 Experience Preferred
- Knowledge of Quality Management systems/programs
- Ability to identify opportunities and drive impact
- Strong communications and change management skills
- Proven record of influencing people at different organizational levels, globally and locally (leaders, peers, operators, etc.)
- Short-term and long-term project management skills
- Strong level of English written and verbal communication skills. Use of professional language and good judgement when interacting with vendors and internal employees
- Fluency in Mandarin and/or Vietnamese desired
- Familiar with Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook) and other computer related software programs to report data
Education, Work Experience, and Professional Certifications:
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial engineering-related discipline
- A minimum of 15-20 years of experience with 10+ years of manufacturing operations or plant engineering experience and/or 5+ years as a lean practitioner
- Lean or Six Sigma Black Belt Certified or equivalent experience required.
Work Environment / Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work extended hours as necessary.
- Able to work efficiently and accurately in an atmosphere of frequent interruption.
- Light physical effort equal to frequent lifting or moving of lightweight materials.
- Office and vendor manufacturing environments
- Occasional international travel (US, Vietnam, China) required (estimated 25%)
- Consistent computer usage
