The Manager of Outbound Transportation is responsible for the cost and service performance of outbound transportation for TaylorMade’s North America (NAM) operations. This position partners with TaylorMade internal entities of North America to define and optimize NAM freight strategies. They are responsible for analyzing business needs and driving supply chain efficiencies that will improve service and costs associated with transportation and distribution. In addition, the Outbound Transportation Manager develops, motivates, trains, and supervises the transportation team.
Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with operations leadership in for NAM Operations to define and support implementation of a outbound freight strategy.
- Participate in developing a commercial strategy for outbound freight for the region.
- Optimize transportation solutions to fulfill and continuously improve transportation cost, service and speed through transportation processes and selection of transportation modes, including but not limited to routing, pooling, cube optimization, mode optimization, etc.
- Identify and develop improved methods of preparing small packages and LTL shipments to reduce freight costs and damages, while maintaining highest level of service to the customer.
- Develop long term process improvements to reduce manual routing time for DSG, Amazon, etc.
- Partner with key business teams (e.g. finance, operations, sales) to optimize outbound freight spend and revenue
- Support negotiations with TaylorMade logistics service providers related to domestic transportation to meet financial and operational objectives.
- Develop and continuously improve transportation reporting tools for outbound transportation to align with corporate financials and drive data-based decision making.
- Develop and implement KPI measurements to control performance of corporate logistics service providers.
- Lead, develop, train and coach the transportation team. Manage and develop team members to achieve department objectives and provide leadership & guidance to the transportation team.
- Support the transportation team in problem solving daily issues.
- Foster a close collaboration between the Distribution Center operations teams and the domestic transportation team.
- Harmonize business practices between the NAM Distribution Centers and Transportation functions.
- Drive business development initiatives and projects for the outbound domestic transportation business and ensure constant implementation of best practices across the region, including Canada.
- Be the TaylorMade expert in domestic regulations that impact the transportation and logistics function, including National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) carrier contracts, freight claim filings, and motor carrier cargo insurance and others.
- Define and standardize outbound routing guides and carrier compliance to ensure consistent achievement of designated KPI’s.
- Develop and communicate shipping guidelines, policies, and procedures to other departments (eg. Marketing) within the organization to ensure consistency, understanding and knowledge, monitor with finance
- Performs other responsibilities as required
Knowledge and Skills Requirements:
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
- Strong commercial business acumen and communication skills
- Excellent knowledge of the domestic transportation business and market for the US & Canada
- Excellent ability to analyze data, identify trends, create/manage excel-based forecasting cost models
- Ability to think end to end and thorough understanding of the relationships between DC operations, sourcing/planning international & domestic transportation function
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to accurately assess talent and effectively motivate and influence others to build skills, efficiently accomplish tasks, and develop leading edge processes.
- Ability to work across teams and manage priorities to accomplish multiple tasks is required.
- Passion for sports required, with passion/interest/knowledge for golf strongly preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Education, Work Experience, and Professional Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, logistics or other related field; additional professional experience in lieu of degree
- 5-7 years of related experience logistics, supply chain, and/or transportation management
- Experience with 3rd party audit & pay
- Experience with managing freight financial forecasts
- Experience managing and coaching teams
Work Environment / Physical Requirements:
- Combination of normal office and warehouse conditions
- Ability to work extended hours as necessary, including weekends
- Occasional travel required (less than 10%)
- Able to work efficiently and accurately in an atmosphere of frequent interruption
- Light physical effort equal to frequent lifting or moving of lightweight materials
