Position Summary
The Vice President of Merchandise Planning and Replenishment is a senior leadership role responsible for building and executing the merchandise financial strategy that drives profitable growth, optimal inventory levels, and strong product performance across all channels. This leader oversees planning, forecasting, allocation, and inventory management teams and partners closely with Merchandising, Finance, Supply Chain, Store Operations, and Business Technology, to ensure the product assortment supports company goals while meeting customer demand.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and lead the merchandise planning strategy to support company revenue, margin, and inventory productivity objectives.
Partner with senior leadership to establish long-range financial plans, seasonal strategies, and merchandise investment targets.
Lead, coach, and develop planning, forecasting, and allocation teams, fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making and accountability.
Oversee creation of category-level, location and channel financial plans in partnership with VP’s of Hard Goods & Soft Goods.
Monitor open-to-buy (OTB) management, and seasonal merchandise forecasts.
Drive alignment between merchandise plans and buying strategies with critical focus on seasonality, flow and space.
Build, refine, and implement planning models, KPIs, and reporting systems that support accurate forecasting and actionable analysis.
Ensure inventory levels are optimized across channels (stores, e-commerce, distribution centers) to achieve service level and weeks-of-supply targets.
Oversee allocation and replenishment strategies to maximize sales, minimize stockouts, and reduce markdown risk.
Monitor product lifecycle performance and guide decisions on buys, replenishment, end-of-season strategies, and exit plans.
Collaborate with Merchandising to ensure assortments and investment strategies align with demand trends, financial goals & locational needs.
Work with Supply Chain to improve inbound flow, lead times, vendor performance, and inventory turns.
Partner with Finance on budget planning, forecasting, and performance reviews.
Collaborate with field leadership to address concerns by stores and by markets.
Champion the use of analytics, dashboards, and predictive modeling to improve forecast accuracy and drive better business decisions.
Identify and implement improvements in planning tools, systems, and processes.
Introduce best practices and ensure consistency across all planning functions.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
10+ years of experience in merchandise planning, inventory management, or financial planning within retail, consumer goods, or related industries.
Proven leadership experience managing large teams and complex planning functions.
Strong analytical skills, business acumen, and expertise in planning systems (e.g., JDA, Oracle RPAS, Anaplan).
Exceptional communication skills and ability to partner effectively across functions.
