Job Description

The Manager Assembly Operations Engineering (based in Carlsbad, California) provides leadership to TaylorMade’s North America assembly operations. This position supports PGA production, warranty and repair operations in Carlsbad, in addition to our assembly operations in Tijuana, Mexico. In this role, you will also collaborate with internal teams such as R&D, Sourcing, and other assembly sites on the manufacturing process for current and future product introductions. You will have supervisory responsibilities for engineers, engineering technicians and maintenance technicians.

Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage go to market activity, assembly process and tool design to support product launches; ensure processes and equipment are capable of meeting safety, quality and productivity targets according to the timeline defined by the product launch calendar (from product life creation to product distribution)
  • Partner closely with R&D and Sourcing teams to monitor product launch schedules for critical development phases of processes, equipment (including managing outside vendors), qualifications and assembly
  • Develop new processes and equipment to support assembly of new products, including managing all aspects of new equipment creation from concept to full production utilization (designing, prototyping, testing, fabrication, assembly, etc.)
  • Oversee the tasks, priorities and output of engineers and technicians, such as data collection, quality reporting, enhancement recommendations, manufacturing layout design, etc.
  • Oversee the qualification of new products for assembly and ensure accurate documentation and specifications are generated for new product designs and manufacturing processes
  • Manage maintenance strategies to minimize equipment downtime, including preventative and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs to result in better safety, quality and productivity
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by identifying, prioritizing and driving efforts to enhance and improve equipment and processes
  • Support assembly operations in other regions as necessary
  • Performs other responsibilities as required

Knowledge and Skills Requirements:

  • Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals
  • Advanced skills in structured problem solving, including application of statistical analysis
  • Analytical mindset; strong reasoning and decision-making skills
  • Experience with CAD, preferably Solidworks and Autocad
  • Experience with Advance Product and manufacturing process planning/approvals
  • Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) experience is a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information effectively to all levels of the organization
  • Must be fluent in English (written and verbal); Spanish communication skills are a plus

Education, Work Experience, and Professional Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Industrial); advanced degree preferred
  • 10-15 years of experience directly related to the responsibilities described within (8+ years with advanced degree)
  • 3+ years of managerial experience with a demonstrated track record of leading teams through cross-function projects
  • Proven abilities in end-to-end equipment creation project management
  • Lean and/or Six Sigma education or certification preferred

Work Environment / Physical Requirements:

  • Normal office conditions with extensive computer and phone usage
  • Primarily lab/warehouse conditions, exposure to irritant fumes, solvent, dirt, dust and noise and varying temperature conditions
  • Requires regular travel to Tijuana, Mexico and occasional travel within the US
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to work extended hours as necessary
  • Able to work efficiently and accurately in an atmosphere of frequent interruption
  • Ability to climb, stoop, bend and carry machinery
  • Light physical effort equal to frequent lifting or moving of lightweight materials
  • Physically able to lift 25 lbs.
