JOB OVERVIEW

Under general supervision, maintain Callaway Golf’s trademark database and provide support to attorneys for intellectual property matters worldwide.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain the Legal Department’s IP docketing databases in support of all Company trademarks worldwide. This includes entering information such as new filings, renewal and office action dates, statements of use, allowances, abandonments or other details requiring tracking and notifications, and generating reports.
  • Correspond with foreign counsel, receive and review incoming foreign correspondence, and docket accordingly. Communicate with foreign associates to file new applications in foreign jurisdictions. Work with foreign associates and send instructions, powers of attorney, and all necessary documents for prosecution of foreign trademark and patent applications.
  • Prepare and file trademark applications, affidavits of use, statements of use, and renewals with supervision.
  • Conduct trademark knockout searches globally.
  • Obtain formal trademark search opinions from foreign counsel, analyze, and summarize results and potential risks for review by managing attorney.
  • Manage domestic trademark clearance process, analyze, and summarize results and potential risks for review by managing attorney.
  • Prepare and distribute reports for upcoming intellectual property filing deadlines.
  • Request and receive patent signature documents from inventors.
  • Perform on-line legal research as requested.
  • Provide support as needed, including processing of invoices, reconciling monthly USPTO deposit account, preparing power of attorney forms, coordinating weekly download and distribution of US issued and published patents, document preparation, mail routing, and general filings.
  • Organize and maintain Legal Department filing systems, file correspondence and other documents (soft and hard copies). Maintain archive database and send archived files to storage.

  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, including excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to effectively work as part of a team and comfortable interacting with all levels of management.
  • Able to maintain highest levels of confidentiality. Demonstrate ability to use discretion and make sound decisions.
  • Capable of working independently or with minimal supervision.
  • Must be proactive, highly organized, detail oriented, and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Self-starter that takes the initiative to start and complete assignments with little supervision.
  • Must possess attention to detail as well as strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Able to prepare detailed documents and create/generate reports with precise attention to detail.
  • Should be resourceful and perform in a professional manner.
  • Familiarity with intellectual property concepts and practices.
  • Very motivated self-starter with excellent skill in MS Word. Familiar with Microsoft Excel

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year College or university; Paralegal certificate and related experience required.
  • Minimum 3 years related experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of trademark docketing required.
  • Extensive knowledge of CPI and Anaqua docketing databases a plus.
  • Strong familiarity with trademark docketing practices, both in U.S. and foreign jurisdictions.
  • Experience in corporate law environment preferred.
  • Notary Public preferred
