Fixed Term Contract - 12 month - Potential to go perm

Based in our Retail Support Centre in Warrington and working 37.5 hours a week between Monday-Friday, As Customer Data Manager, you will be responsible for the health, security, and compliance of our customer data – ensuring it is fit for purpose to use across multiple channels and touchpoints. To achieve the American Golf strategy of a ‘Single Customer View’, your primary focuses will be to document the current ecosystem, improve data hygiene & governance, and to enrich the database with further integrations. To note: we have a third-party agency (Go Inspire) that manages the database. The ideal candidate will have a track record of complex data & system management but does not need to be a data architect.


  • Be the main point of contract for Go Insight for all customer data related queries, actions & projects
  • Review, map, and document the following: Customer data ecosystem (systems, processing, fields, integrations, Club Card, customer account, etc.) Database management rules (cleansing, ETL, validation, merging, archiving, etc.Data schema (fields, tags, data tables, rules, etc.)
  • From the review, produce a gap analysis with recommendations to improve database health, processes, and single customer view (further integrations)
  • Manage Go Insight to implement new database management rules and carry out cleanse on legacy data
  • Develop and implement improved logic to manage the customer ID within the database and external systems
  • Update all customer capture entry points with agreed and consistent fields, validation rules, tagging, and processes
  • Lead the agreed data integrations; manage all parties, QC, and ensure delivery meets deadlines and business requirements
  • Identify and implement monthly database health metrics
  • Review, map, and document how customer data is used and processed across business functions & platforms
  • Work with key business stakeholders and identify where customer data and/or reports can add further value
  • Implement low cost/effort integrations to other platforms where further customer data can add immediate value
  • Produce a long-term data management strategy, with a focus on systems and data usage, e.g., data lakes, Data Management Platforms
  • Review current data & GDPR policies, procedures, standards, and systems to ensure they are compliant
  • Provide gap analysis and plan to further improve compliance and security
  • Devise and implement efficient and secure procedures for data handling, processing, and sharing across the business – applied with new software where needed
  • Work with external DPO to document agreed GDPR actions and processes – and react to any customer requests
  • Lead the monthly Data Security Committee to govern recent data queries, ongoing actions, and updates on the data project
  • Review and develop our internal data standards and implement a new training programme with the L&D team
  • Leisure is a new venture for the business that is currently not integrated with American Golf. This role will be responsible for reviewing and developing the Leisure data structure, usage, processes, and compliance – then integrating it into American Golf
  • The Club Card membership programme will go through a period of evolution in 2022. This role will form part of the project team to ensure any additional data is captured and managed accordingly

About you:

  • Minimum five years senior experience working in a similar data related role
  • Credible track record of managing complex data sets, data systems, and implementing data quality & governance procedures
  • Good understanding of HTML, SQL, & other database languages
  • Up-to-date knowledge of GDPR and other data policies
  • Impeccable attention to detail, a natural problem solver, with a solution-focused attitude
  • Excellent project planning and management skills; well organised and comfortable managing conflicting demands
  • Confident and enthusiastic, with strong leadership and influencing skills – able to work collaboratively within the business and with external parties
  • A team player, with a positive approach to all tasks and challenges
  • General understanding of CRM systems is desired
  • Previous experience of working on ‘Single Customer View’ projects a bonus
