The nominees have been announced for the GCMA Manager of the Year Awards.

The Awards will be presented at a gala dinner on the second evening of the GCMA 2021 Conference at Wyboston Lakes Resort, in Bedfordshire, on November 22.

They aim to recognise the incredible work that goes on at golf clubs and acknowledge the key personnel who work together to ensure the successful operation of a club.

Three prizes will be presented: Manager of the Year, Team of the Year and Newcomer of the Year and the nominees are as follows:

GCMA Manager of the Year:

  • Matt Parsley, Conwy, North Wales
  • Stuart Leech, Formby, Liverpool
  • James Maclean, Bognor Regis, West Sussex
  • Gary Stangoe, Reading, Berkshire
  • Bob Tawell, Rushmere, Ipswich
  • Ben Driver, Chigwell, Essex

GCMA Team of the Year:

  • Long Ashton, Bristol; run by Gareth Morgan
  • Ganton, North Yorkshire; run by Gary Pearce
  • Seacroft, Skegness; run by Susan Turner

GCMA Newcomer of the Year:

  • Sam Foster, Whitby, North Yorkshire
  • Gary Beves, Goodwood, West Sussex
  • Louis Booth, Lincoln, Lincolnshire

Two years ago, Enville’s Heather Mulley was named Manager of the Year, with Kerry Alligan-Smith, of Redditch, named Newcomer of the Year. Llanishen won the Team of the Year prize.

Tom Brooke, GCMA chief executive, said: “Club Managers and their teams have produced some incredible results over the past two years under extremely challenging circumstances and we were overwhelmed by the quality of entries for the GCMA Manager of the Year Awards in every category.

“A common theme of the nominations, though, is not just the work and leadership by individuals and teams over the past two years, but some exceptional performances and commitment for a number of years before that time as well.

“It is a testament to our members and the high regard they are held in by their colleagues and by those at their clubs. It has been wonderful to hear about the fantastic work that’s going on around the UK.

“Producing a list of nominees was not an easy process and finding the winners will be even more difficult. Everyone who has been nominated should feel proud and good luck at the gala dinner to all who have been shortlisted.”
